In the absence of the "King of Clay," Rafael Nadal, at the Roland Garros Stadium, Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic will attempt to win a record 23rd Grand Slam at the French Open in 2023. With 22 tennis major titles each, Nadal and Djokovic share the record for the most Grand Slam victories by a men's singles player.

However, Nadal's fellow Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who is presently ranked No. 1 in the world in the ATP rankings, will be standing in Djokovic's way.

The World No. 3 Djokovic and Alcaraz clashed in last year's ATP Masters 1000 Madrid semifinal in Spain. Djokovic is paired in the same half as Alcaraz. The two-time French Open winner was defeated by Alcaraz in three sets.

Iga Swiatek of Poland, the defending women's singles champion and a former Youth Olympic gold medalist, will attempt to become the first woman since Serena Williams to win three French Open championships. She defeated rising US star Coco Gauff in the 2019 final and went on to win the 2020 edition despite being an unseeded player.

Indian tennis players at French Open 2023:

The only Indian participant in the 2023 French Open singles category will be Ankita Raina, an Asian Games bronze medalist.

In the men's doubles event, the in-form Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden will pair up. Bopanna recently reached No. 9 in the world in the doubles rankings.

In partnership with Gabriela Dabrowski of Canada, Rohan Bopanna won the mixed doubles match at the 2017 French Open. It has not yet been announced that he will play in the mixed doubles competition this year.

Also competing in the men's doubles competition will be the all-Indian team of Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni.
