French Open 2025: Will the defending champion, Alcaraz make it a second consecutive win at Roland Garros or is Sinner poised for a maiden win?

Carlos Alcaraz is in his second consecutive French Open final and 5th overall in Grand Slams and every time he’s been at that stage, he has converted and taken home the title. Twice at Wimbledon, once each at the US Open and French Open. He now aims for a second win at Roland Garros to join the long list of gentlemen to have won the title more than once.
Alcaraz had got a walkover in the fourth set of his semi-final tie against Lorenzo Musetti, after the latter had to retire hurt. Musetti had won the first set and was giving the defending champ a run for his money in the second too, but then the momentum dropped in the third, which he conceded with a whimper, only to then call it quits in the fourth. He just could not go on any longer.
Meanwhile, in the second semi-final, Jannik Sinner, who had a three month ban for an earlier doping issue, that came into effect after the Australian Open, which he won, and ended in time for the French Open, has his sights set on a maiden victory at Roland Garros. His best at the tournament so far has been last year’s semi-final appearance, which he lost against Alcaraz.
Sinner defeated 3-time champ Novak Djokovic, who was gunning for a career 25th Slam, in straight sets. By the end of the match, Djokovic said that the 2025 semi-final may have just been his last match at Roland Garros, hinting that the 38-year-old, the last of the Big Three still standing, maybe considering retirement.
Sinner and Alcaraz have faced each other 11 times so far and the advantage lies in favour of the Spaniard at 7:4. Their last 4 encounters, which includes last year’s French Open semi-final, have all gone Alcaraz’s way, 2 on clay and 2 on hard surface. Their Grand Slam matches promise thrilling finishes, with at least 2 going into a 5th set decider.
