French Open 2025: It’s the stage of four and soon it will be decided if there’ll be a new champion at Roland Garros or if Iga Swiatek will get her fifth and inch closer to Chris Evert’s record
Last Updated: 04.49 PM, Jun 05, 2025
The French Open 2025 women’s singles semi-finals play out today. In the first match of the day at the Phillipe-Chatrier centre court, defending champion Iga Swiatek, who is on the hunt for a fifth title on the clay court of Roland Garros, will take on Aryna Sabalenka. Only two women are ahead of Swiatek with more wins at the French Open, namely Steffi Graf with 6 and Chris Evert with 7.
The second semi-final is between Coco Gauff and Lois Boisson, with the latter having a dream run at the tournament, having never before played in the main draw of a Grand Slam event. In doing so, Boisson has become the first French semi-finalist since Marion Bartoli (2011) at the French Open. She is also only the third woman since 1980 to reach the semi-finals at her first major after Monica Seles and Jennifer Capriati.

Swiatek vs Sabalenka
When you are the top of the game, you are more likely to run into each other quite often and it is no surprise that Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka are poised for their 13th WTA encounter. In their 12 matches so far, though, Swiatek is the one with the advantage, having won a whopping 8 against 4 to Sabalenka. Interestingly, enough, only 5 of these matches went into a third set decider and here, Sabalenka has the advantage, having won thrice.
Gauff vs Boisson
Coco Gauff and Lois Boisson face off for the first time in the women’s tour on June 5 at the French Open 2025 semi-final.
Iga Swiatek
Swiatek began her fifth French Open title hunt with a win over Rebecca Sramkova, which she followed up with victories over Emma Raducanu, Jacqueline Cristian, Elena Rybakina and Elina Svitolina.
Aryna Sabalenka
Sabalenka defeated Kamilla Rakhimova, Jill Teichmann, Olga Danilovic, Amanda Anisimova and Qinwen Zheng, all in straight sets, to set up the semi-final match against Swiatek.
Coco Gauff
Gauff’s road to the semis include wins over Olivia Gadecki, Tereza Valentova, Marie Bouzkova, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Madison Keys.
Lois Boisson
Boisson defeated the likes of Elise Mertens, Anhelina Kalinina, Elsa Jaquemot, Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andreeva, 3 of which were hard-fought 3-set deciders.
