The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 has started and has kept the audience hooked to their seats since most of the matches have been thrillers. In the fourth match of the tournament, Delhi Capitals (DC) clashed against the Gujarat Giants (GG) at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai. The game was a last-over thriller as Laura Wolvaardt batted the very end, setting the hopes for the DC fans. Despite all efforts, DC lost by four runs.
The game started with GG batting first. It was Sophie Devine (95) and Ashleigh Garnder (49) who set the base for the team in the first innings. They helped the team score 209 runs, despite Nandani Sharma claiming five wickets. She conceded 33 runs in four overs. While the rest of the GG batters didn't score much runs, it was the top order who scored the maximum runs for the team.
When DC came to bat, they lost a few early wickets and the game tilted towards the Giants in the first half. Lizelle Lee slammed a brilliant 86 off 54 balls, including 12 boundaries and three sixes. She was the reason DC went ahead in the game.
When Laura Wolvaardt came to bat, DC were 41-1 in 5 overs. Her presence was quite important for the team as she stayed till the end and scored 77 off 38 balls, including nine boundaries and three sixes. In the last four overs, DC required 48 runs to win and Wolvaardt's outstanding batting performance helped the score come down to seven required in six balls.
While the game reached an intense moment and felt that DC would win the game with seven wickets in hand and two set batters at the crease, Jemimah Rodrigues threw her wicket with an unnecessary shot. GG's Sophie Devine, using all her experience in the match, helped the team win the match. She bowled a brilliant over, pulling back the momentum from the opponents.
