India's former spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for introducing the new Bronco Test as a parameter to judge fitness. Earlier, the management used to judge players on the basis of the Yo-Yo test in all-formats of the game. Now, strength and conditioning coach Adrian le Roux will also focus on the Bronco test to judge the fitness levels of all the players in the international set-up.
As per the former cricketer, the change in techniques create a lot of change in the lives of the cricketers, making it difficult for them to adapt. Moreover, he also highlighed the point where the injury levels among the players increase as well.
"I have always asked the trainers. When the trainers change, the testing mechanism changes. The trainer changes, the training schemes change. When this happens, players go through a lot of difficulty. As a player, if you keep changing training schemes, it is virtually very difficult for the players. In many cases, it could also lead to injuries. I am not denying that, it has led to injuries. From 2017 to 2019, I was searching for my training scheme. I have endured this. Soham Desai knows all about this," said Ashwin.
As per reports, the Bronco test will help the fitness coach understand the aerobic endurance and push the players' cardiovascular limits. This technique will force the pacers to increase their running speed in the future. Moreover, the Bronco test is widely popular in physical sports like football and rugby.
