India's legendary batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have retired from Test and T20I cricket but are fully involved in the ODIs. Other than batting and fielding, they have proper discussions about the matches, share their opinions, and have regular conversations with the head coach Gautam Gambhir.
India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak revealed that Kohli and Rohit are extremely involved in the dressing room conversations with the head coach. The former captains are quite experienced and have performed brilliantly in the past series. Infact, Kohli also scored 93 runs in the previous game, helping India win the match.
"They discuss with Gautam about the ODI format, about the matches we have, and about our plans going to South Africa. Most of the time I'm there, and whenever I'm listening, they definitely share their experience. I always see them talking," said Sitanshu Kotak as quoted by Cricbuzz.
"Obviously, on social media, you see a lot of things, which I try to avoid seeing. See, both of them are so senior and so experienced. They definitely make plans. They want to practice at all the venues," he added.
India's head coach spoke about how well Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli practice and understand what is needed for them to succeed. Since they are the best players in the format and since they are playing just a single format, they are well aware of all the fitness concerns, and other requirements for their body.
"If they feel they need to, they'll go a couple of days in advance. And they practise because they both also been such an outstanding players for India. They know now they're playing one format and I'm sure they are thinking that one format, they want India to win everywhere when they are there and they are performing," noted Kotak.
"So planning-wise and all, they are someone who are brilliant. They know what they need to do. They know what their body needs, not only betting, even the fitness, whatever requirements they have," he added.
