India's star T20I batter Sanju Samson has established his place in the Indian team in the shortest format of the game. Despite having struggled with the form in the past, Samson had found a place in the team. The opener has formed several crucial partnerships with his partner, Abhishek Sharma, to help India win matches.
Moreover, Samson was a part of India's T20 World Cup 2024 winning squad but didn't get to play a match. After that, Samson made a comeback into the playing XI with a few half-centuries and centuries back in 2024. However, his performance in the recent past hasn't been quite impressive.
For the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, there are many contenders for the opening spot, including Test captain Shubman Gill, who is in incredible form. Hence, it's quite natural for any player to worry about their place in the squad. Despite that, Samson looked quite content when he was having a conversation with Ravichandran Ashwin.
Samson revealed that head coach Gautam Gambhir has spoken to him about his performance and reassured him about his place in the squad. "I scored two ducks in two matches against Sri Lanka. I started thinking, 'oh, is it going back to the same thing, two matches in the team and then I go out'. I was a bit down in the dressing room, and Gauti bhai (Gautam Gambhir) saw. He came up to me and asked, 'Kya hua? (What happened?)'. said Sanju Samson
Gambhir, who is known for his strict nature, spoke some kind and heartwarming words, helping Samson understand everything quite clearly. "I said, I got two chances, but I couldn't score. Gauti bhai said, 'Toh k ya hua? (So what?) Only if you score 21 ducks, I will drop you from the team," added Samson.
The right-handed batter might have gotten reassurance from the coach, reports suggest that he is likely to get dropped from the Indian squad ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. The fans will have to wait for India's squad to be revealed later this month.
