Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently shared an interesting perspective on what sets New Zealand apart as a cricketing side, especially in high-pressure international contests. Known for his sharp cricketing brain, Ashwin highlighted how the Black Caps consistently rely on planning, clarity, and execution rather than just raw talent.

His remarks came amid the ongoing India vs New Zealand ODI series, where the visitors once again showcased their ability to stay competitive through discipline and smart decision-making. Ashwin pointed out that New Zealand’s strength lies in their collective thinking and clear roles within the team.

According to him, every player seems aware of what is expected, making them difficult opponents regardless of conditions or personnel. This structured approach, Ashwin noted, allows New Zealand to adapt quickly during games and often outthink stronger teams at crucial moments.

“A lot of the top teams aren’t very analytically driven. New Zealand is a very analytically driven side. I hope to sit down with them and observe their planning; I am even willing to pay money for it if needed. The way they execute their plans, I would pay to sit in their team meetings to understand how they go about it,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel ‘Ash Ki Baat’.

We must give credit to New Zealand: Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin also praised New Zealand for the way they fight back and play cricket. Even in the previous game against India, they didn't give up till the last moment. They played well in the first innings and then, went on to take wickets at the right interval. Despite losing the game, their fighting spirit was praised by many former cricketers.

"We must give credit to New Zealand for the way they showed the stomach to fight in the game. They didn’t stop till the end, and that’s why they were able to come back into the game. I also posted a tweet that New Zealand don’t have a lot of strength in their squad, in terms of man-to-man. But because of their discipline, fielding, and how they execute their plans well, they are able to fight and compete with some of the top teams," he added.
