India’s Test skipper Shubman Gill has made a strong move in the latest ICC Test batting rankings, re-entering the top 10 and reaffirming his standing among the game’s best red-ball batters. The rise comes after a phase where Gill slipped slightly due to limited appearances, rather than lack of form, making his return an important marker of consistency over time rather than a sudden spike.

Gill’s overall Test numbers across the last two seasons have remained impressive, particularly in home conditions, where he has combined patience with controlled aggression. The Test mixup came after the four Test matches in the Ashes 2025. Australian wicket-keeper Alex Carey was ahead of Gill but failed to collect runs and came down four positions in the rankings.

This worked in Gill's favor and the batter re-entered the top 10. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal is present at the eighth position due to his outstanding performance in the Test series against South Africa. Joe Root is leading the board with 867 ratings, followed by Harry Brook with 846 ratings.

Jasprit Bumrah at top position in bowlers' rankings

India's star batter Jasprit Bumrah is at the first position in the Test rankings. Bumrah has been phenomenal in the previous series' and hence, has retained his position. However, he is facing tough competiton from Mitchell Starc who has been outstanding in the ongoing Ashes series. He is in an incredible form, picking wickets at regular intervals.

Currently, Bumrah is at the top with 879 ratings while Starc is at the second position with 843 ratings. He is sharing the stage with Pakistan's Noman Ali who ripped apart South Africa in the Test series. Meanwhile, Pat Cummins is in the third position with 841 ratings, despite missing most of the Ashes 2025. With the upcoming year filled with cricket matches, the table is bound to be shaken.
