The Indian cricket team has been in outstanding form recently, especially in the white-ball cricket. The team recently won its third ICC Champions Trophy title by defeating New Zealand in the finals by four wickets. Currently, the only concern that Team India has is the inconsistency in Test cricket. In the last two series, Team India was outplayed by New Zealand by 3-0 at home, followed by a 3-1 BGT loss in Australia.
Hence, in order to tackle India's test cricket woes, former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has suggested BCCI to include four to five foreign players in every Ranji team.
Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has come up with a distinctive solution to help India regain the test dominance. According to him, India would become the number one side if the BCCI implements the rule of including 4 to 5 foreign players in every Ranji team. Here's what he said:
"We have been doing well in white-ball formats because of IPL. India have managed to find match-winners and our bench strength is strong. However, we still lack in Test cricket and lost to New Zealand at home and then in Australia. I have a suggestion to improve our performances in red-ball format. The BCCI should allow four or five foreign players in each Ranji Trophy team, and let me tell you, this would help us. We would become number one in Test cricket. In IPL, our players play alongside overseas cricketers, which has helped them. This could be tried in Ranji Trophy."
Team India, who was enjoying an unbeaten 12-year streak at home, was halted by New Zealand in November 2024. The Kiwis dominated the Indian team in every department, which eventually resulted in a 3-0 whitewash for the hosts. After that, the Men in Blue carried the similar form in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. Despite winning the first test in Perth, Team India failed to carry the momentum forward in the next matches. As a result, Australia defeated India by 3-1 and secured its spot in the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25.
