After three crucial wickets in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 Final against Australia, the atmosphere at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium turned sombre. The tight fielding had dried up the boundaries, casting a hush over the crowd. However, Virat Kohli reignited the stadium with cheers as he reached his half-century.

This marked Kohli's 5th consecutive half-century in the tournament and his 9th 50+ score overall.

Five consecutive 50+ scores in World Cups:

5 Steven Smith in 2015

5 Virat Kohli in 2019

5 Virat Kohli in 2023

50+ scores in both semi & final in a World Cup edition:

Mike Brearley (1979)

David Boon (1987)

Javed Miandad (1992)

Aravinda de Silva (1996)

Grant Elliot (2015)

Steven Smith (2015)

Virat Kohli (2023)

The joy was short-lived as he fell victim to captain Pat Cummins, being bowled out for 54. It was indeed a massive wicket, plunging the entire stadium into a funeral-like silence. The batsman, too, appeared stunned as he walked back after his 54-run inning from 63 balls.

Fans, taking to social media, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter), do not know how to react to the 50 and wicket of Kohli.

As of the current update, 29 overs have been played, and India has scored 149 runs, losing four wickets. With KL Rahul at 34 and new batter Ravindra Jadeja at the crease, the responsibility lies on their shoulders to propel India to a formidable total.
