Bangladesh restricted India to a modest 168 in the first inning of the Super Four clash of the Asia Cup 2025 at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai despite a great start by the Indian batter. Abhishek Sharma top-scored for India with 75 from 37 balls.

Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bowl first after their captain, Litton Das, had to sit out due to a side strain, as OTTplay had reported earlier. Zaker Ali led the side and made as many as four changes while India kept the same playing XI for the Bangladesh match.

Just like the Pakistan match, Indian openers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma started really well for India. Although Bangladesh bowled the first two overs well, Gill and Abhishek’s boundary hitting helped India finish the first powerplay with 72 on the board. However, Gill had to depart on 29 off 19 right after the end of the power play.

India’s plan to send Shivam Dube at No.3 failed as Rishad Hossain picked him up early. Meantime, Abhishek Sharma completed his consecutive fifty of the Asia Cup in just 25 balls to give India the momentum for a big finish.

The big turning point

It was Abhishek Sharma’s run out on 75 off 37 balls by Rishad Hossain that put a break to India’s run flow. With 111/2 after 11 ovvers, India were looking at score over 200 in the first inning. But Abhishek Sharma’s dismissal slowed things up for Men in Blue.

The Tigers, meanwhile, bowled tightly and did not give anything to work with for the Indian batters. Suryakumar Yadav added only 5 from 11 while Tilak Varma scored 5 from 7 balls.

At the end, it was Hardik Pandya’s 38 off 29 balls that took India to a respectable total. But if it was not for Axar Patel’s struggling 10 from 15 balls, India could have ended up 180 on that pitch.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mustaifzur Rahaman ended up with 1 wicket each, while Rishad Hossain was the pick of the bowlers with 27/2 in his three overs.
