India slipped to 5th in the World Test Championship standings after a crushing defeat to South Africa in the 2nd Test. Here’s how the result reshaped the WTC table.

The 2-match Test series defeat against South Africa cost India another place in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. From the third position, the Men in Blue have dropped to the fifth with a PCT of 48.15. India have played nine matches and won just four. The road to the WTC final is going to get tougher from here, considering the increasing level of competition and the way India re playing.
Meanwhile, Australia have won four consecutive matches and are in the first position with PCT 100, following them are South Africa in the second position with three wins in four games. They have a PCT of 75. Even though there are almost 14 matches to go for these two teams, it looks like they are way ahead of the other competitors in the race.

Who is responsible for India's Test series loss against South Africa?
The Indian cricket team started their WTC 2025-27 cycle with two stunning wins against England and then went on to win another two Test matches against West Indies at home. However, their victory streak came to an end against South Africa where they were whitewashed in their own backyard.
The embarassing loss, the team's failed performance, the rotation miss-haps, and everything that's connected to the Tests series were the reason behind India's drop in the WTC points table. Now, the journey towards the WTC final has become even more difficult. With injuries looming over the team and inconsistent performances, it will be interesting to see how far Gautam Gambhir can carry the team.
