India, although they got whitewashed in the Test series by 2-0 against the Proteas, will have a new-look ODI squad to take on the visitors. After a decent outing in the ODIs against Australia a month back, the Men in Blue will look to do better against South Africa, in their journey towards the ICC World Cup 2027.

Meantime, South Africa will be eyeing another clean sweep against India after a historic Test series win after nearly 25 years. Temba Bavuma’s men will be without their key pacer Kagiso Rabada, but their squad still has some great white-ball players to take on the Indians.

India will be without their main captain, Shubman Gill, who suffered a neck injury in Kolkata and has not recovered till then. KL Rahul will be their leader for the three ODIs, while they will depend on legends like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who now only play the ODI format in international cricket.

Head-to-Head and recent meetings

India and South Africa have a rich history in ODI cricket, having faced each other in 94 matches overall. India have won 40 matches, while South Africa has been more dominant, winning 51 matches. 3 games ended in no results.

South Africa won the home ODI series 3–0 in 2021–22, but India replied by winning the next home ODI series against them by 2-1 in the 2022-23 season. India then continued their winning momentum by winning the 2023-24 series by 2-1.
