The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rolled out a thrilling schedule for the Women's T20I series against Sri Lanka, signalling the triumphant return of the world champions to the shortest format. From December 21 to 30, India Women will light up Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram with a five-match showdown, fueling excitement as they gear up for the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup in England and Wales.

India to host Sri Lanka for a five-match T20I series

The series kicks off with the first two T20Is at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on December 21 (Sunday) and December 23 (Tuesday).

The excitement then travels south to the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, where the final three clashes will unfold on December 26, 28, and 30.

This split-venue format promises diverse conditions, with Vizag's batting-friendly pitches, familiar from the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup, testing early aggression, while Trivandrum hosts its first women's internationals after men's T20Is and ODIs.

India enters as overwhelming favourites, boasting a dominant 20-6 head-to-head record in T20Is against Sri Lanka, including their last win on Indian soil dating back to 2014 in Visakhapatnam.

Fresh off their historic ICC Women's ODI World Cup triumph last month, Harmanpreet Kaur's side last played T20Is in July, clinching a thrilling 3-2 series win in England. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, hasn't featured in the format since a 1-1 tied series against New Zealand in March, interrupted by a washout.

The reharshal for 2026 T20 World Cup

This upcoming series against Sri Lanka marks a significant milestone for India, as it will be their first international appearance since clinching their historic maiden Women’s ODI World Cup title in Navi Mumbai earlier this month. The matches not only serve as a celebration of their recent triumph but also represent a crucial phase in the team's build-up to the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England, scheduled from June 12 to July 5.

The series will offer India an opportunity to test new combinations, refine strategies, and gain valuable match practice against a competitive Sri Lankan side as they lay the groundwork for another world title bid.

Following the T20I series against Sri Lanka, the Indian women's cricket calendar remains packed with high-profile events. The fourth edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) is set to take place from January 9 to February 5, 2026, with matches scheduled in Navi Mumbai and Vadodara.
