Top-three players Sumit Nagal, Karan Singh, and Aryan Shah have been selected to play the singles matches, with all players available this time. Veteran doubles specialists Yuki Bhambri and Sriram Balaji will represent India in the doubles rubber.
The selection committee, chaired by Nandan Bal, also announced three reserve players: Dhakshineswar Suresh, S. Mukund, and Rithvik Bollipalli. Rohit Rajpal will lead the team as captain, while Ashutosh Singh will serve as coach.
India holds a 2-1 win-loss record against Switzerland in Davis Cup encounters and has triumphed over the Swiss team both at home and away. The last meeting between the two teams was in 1993 at the South Club in Kolkata, then played on grass courts.
During that tie, legendary players Ramesh Krishnan and Leander Paes secured victory for India with singles wins over Jakob Hlasek and a victorious doubles match against Hlasek and Marc Rosset in five sets. Notably, Marc Rosset, the Barcelona Olympics gold medalist, registered wins in both his singles matches in that tie.
The Swiss team for this tie is expected to feature players such as Jerome Kym (ATP ranking 145), Marc-Andrea Huesler (170), Dominic Stricker (205), Mika Brunold (300), Alexander Ritschard (314), Jakub Paul (350), and Remy Bertola (352). Switzerland recently lost their first-round qualifier to Spain.
On the Indian side, Sumit Nagal is currently ranked 306 in singles, while Karan Singh and Aryan Shah hold rankings of 403 and 442, respectively. In doubles, Yuki Bhambri leads as the highest-ranked Indian at 35, closely followed by Sriram Balaji at 75, two positions ahead of reserve player Rithvik Bollipalli.
