The ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 Final turned into a night of celebration for Indian cricket, as Harmanpreet Kaur’s team scripted history with a 52-run victory over South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. It was a match that had everything, big runs, key wickets, and the roar of a passionate home crowd as India lifted their first-ever Women’s World Cup trophy.
Opting to bat first on a dry pitch, India’s top order fired with remarkable intent. Shafali Verma set the tone early with a fearless 87 off 78 balls, combining aggression and maturity beyond her years. Partnering Smriti Mandhana, she powered India past 100 within the first 15 overs. Mandhana’s fluent 56 and a composed 48 from Jemimah Rodrigues kept the momentum alive. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur added a quick 36 before India closed at an imposing 298/7, a total that looked competitive but not unassailable.
South Africa’s bowlers, led by Ayabonga Khaka and Marizanne Kapp, fought hard in the middle overs, but India’s batting depth proved crucial in the final overs, as Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma added vital late runs to push the total close to 300.
Defending 299, India’s bowlers showed nerves of steel. Renuka Singh drew first blood, dismissing Laura Wolvaardt early, while Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma maintained control through the middle overs. Just when South Africa looked to rebuild, Shafali Verma struck twice, removing Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp in a span of a few overs, turning the tide back India’s way.
From there, the bowlers hunted in pairs. Deepti Sharma’s control and Vastrakar’s pace ensured that South Africa never recovered from the pressure. The visitors were bowled out for 246, handing India a famous 52-run win.
