The Indian Premier League is known to provide a platform to young players on a global stage. The ongoing IPL 2025 season too has yet again given an opportunity to young sensations like Vaibhav Sruyavanshi and Ayush Mhatre. Both the players have showcased their capabilities by delivering excellent performances for their respective franchises.
The 14-year-old Vaibhav, playing for Rajasthan Royals, became the youngest batter to score a hundred. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, who was roped in as a replacement for injured Ruturaj Gaikwad by CSK, played an excellent knock of 94 runs against RCB.
Ayush's recent knock has garnered the attention of the cricket fans around the world. Following his success in the IPL, Ayush's father, Yogesh, has advised him to stick to his natural game and not try to copy Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
In an interview with Mid Day, Mhatre's father said, I've told Ayush that he and Vaibhav are two very different batsmen, and that if someone compares him with Vaibhav, he should not dwell on it. I have also told him not to try to imitate Vaibhav or aim to score a century like him. I believe there is absolutely no need for Ayush to put any pressure on himself or try to achieve something big prematurely. He has a long way to go."
Ayush's father further revealed how MS Dhoni praised his son after an impressive knock against RCB. "Dhoni calmly said to Ayush, 'Well played. Aage isi tarah achha karte rehna hai' [in the future, you have to keep performing well just like this]. It may have been just a few words, but coming from Dhoni, whom Ayush respects immensely, the words meant a lot. It felt as though Dhoni was showing belief in Ayush's ability by entrusting him with an important responsibility going forward."
Ayush has played four matches and scored a total of 163 runs at an average of 40.75. Apart from the IPL, Ayush also delivered promising performances in the domestic circuit of the game.
