The Mumbai Indians (MI) were desperate for a win after securing three consecutive losses, and they did just that against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium, captivating an audience of 18,000 children. This victory marked the first win for Hardik Pandya as the MI skipper.

Romario Shepherd's explosive 39 off 10 deliveries proved pivotal in DC's defeat, as MI amassed 234 runs, losing five wickets in 20 overs. Despite Prithvi Shaw's early efforts, alongside Abishek Porel and Tristan Stubbs, DC fell short of victory by 29 runs, lacking support from their batting lineup.

Stubbs, resilient with an unbeaten 71, battled alone at the crease, while David Warner's swift dismissal for 10 and Abhishek's 41 failed to accelerate the run rate. Shaw contributed with a fifty, while Stubbs, batting ahead of captain Rishabh Pant, showcased exceptional hitting prowess.

MI's pacer Jasprit Bumrah delivered crucial yorkers and off-speed deliveries, restraining DC's batting onslaught. Gerald Coetzee's three wickets in the final over, adding to his total of 4, and contributions from Bumrah and Romario Shepherd, further stifled DC's momentum.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma's 49 and Ishan Kishan's 42 set the foundation for MI, particularly during the Powerplay. However, DC spinner Axar Patel dismissed Sharma at 49, triggering a flurry of wickets, with MI slipping to 121/4.

Captain Hardik Pandya's 39, alongside Tim David's unbeaten 45, bolstered MI's total, but Shepherd's late heroics propelled them to their third-highest team total of the season.
