Pouring in INR 20.5 crore at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction and making him the second most expensive player, Pat Cummins could all but become the captain for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the upcoming edition. He would be replacing Aiden Markram, who recently led the SunRisers Eastern Cape at the SA20 tournament to consecutive titles.

While Markram has struggled to make an impact during his two-year tenure as captain in the IPL, Cummins has also not achieved significant success in the IPL. However, the Aussie has won major tournaments in international cricket, which could prove beneficial for the side, as reported by Cricbuzz.

In 2023, the 30-year-old Australian led his side to victory in both the World Test Championship (WTC) and the ODI World Cup. Additionally, he played a crucial role in helping the Baggy Greens retain the Ashes in England.

About SunRisers Hyderabad:

The franchise is faced with the task of finding a new bowling coach, as Dale Steyn has requested a break from the upcoming IPL season. The former South African pacer is expected to make a return to the IPL in the near future. The responsibility of appointing a new bowling coach now falls on the newly-appointed head coach, Daniel Vettori.

Regarding the IPL schedule for SRH, the 2016 IPL champions will kick off their campaign against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 23 at the iconic Eden Gardens.

The side will be looking to make amends for their 2023 edition, where they finished at the bottom of the points table after winning just four matches out of 14.
