While runs were flowing at the Eden Gardens in Match 36 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) managed to send back three dangerous Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batters – Phil Salt, Sunil Narine, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi – within the Powerplay. In 6 overs, KKR scored 75 runs but also lost three wickets.

First, Mohammed Siraj got the better of Philip Salt, while Yash Dayal dismissed Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi in the same over.

Highest Powerplay totals for three wickets or more down in IPL:

75/3 KKR vs RCB Kolkata 2024 *

72/3 MI vs GT Ahmedabad 2023

71/3 MI vs RR Wankhede 2014

65/3 RR vs GT Navi Mumbai 2023

Siraj delivered a good-length ball that was angled towards the right-hander. Although Salt intended to go behind square when he picked the length early and swung through the line, he struck it straighter and over square leg. Rajat Patidar sprinted over to his right and completed a straightforward catch to send Salt back for 48(14) [4s-7 6s-3].

With a series of yorkers both at the pads and outside off, RCB was able to silence Narine. Dayal delivered a slower ball that was outside of off, and Narine attempted to smash it but smacked it off the toe of the bat instead of lofting it. Virat Kohli at long-off easily accepted the catch as Narine walked away for 10(15) [4s-2].

Dayal also dismissed young gun Angkrish Raghuvanshi in the same over. But the splinded catch is all Cameron Green's doing. A delivery of considerable length was angled towards the right-hander, and Raghuvanshi casually chipped it over the mid-wicket area. It would have been a boundary if there had been another fielder, but tall guy Green retraced his steps, arched his back, and made a one-handed catch. Even though he landed on his back, it was still fun for everyone at the RCB camp. Angkrish Raghuvanshi left after just 3(4).

As of writing this article, another KKR wicket fell as Green dismissed Venkatesh Iyer for 16(8) on his second delivery. With 4 down, KKR has still scored 126 runs in 12 overs. Skipper Shreyas Iyer is at the crease with hard-hitter Rinku Singh.
