Went on to score a century in 61 balls, but it wasn't worthy of a celebration from Rohit Sharma as his side, Mumbai Indians (MI), lost by 20 runs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 29 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. It's worth noting that this is the exact number of runs - 20 - MS Dhoni scored after he walked to the crease to face the final 4 balls.

The 'Hitman' smashed 11 fours and 5 sixes to remain 105 not out, but it wasn't enough as the batters down the order didn't contribute much. He started well along with Ishan Kishan (23 off 15), but Matheesha Pathirana dismissed the latter and Suryakumar Yadav for a duck in the same over.

However, the opening batter and Tilak Varma (31 off 20) got going again, but after his departure, Rohit couldn't accelerate as the middle order disappointed. Skipper Hardik Pandya (2 off 6), Tim David (13 off 5), Romario Shepherd (1 off 2), and Mohammad Nabi (4* off 7) were not of much help.

Matheesha Pathirana picked up 4 wickets for CSK, while Tushar Deshpande and Mustafizur Rahman had one each to their name.

Earlier in the innings for CSK, Ajinkya Rahane (5 off 8) and Rachin Ravindra (21 off 16) were dismissed early. However, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (69 off 40) led from the front along with Shivam Dube (66* off 38) to illuminate the stadium with boundaries. Daryl Mitchell also contributed with 17 runs off 14 balls, but it was Dhoni's explosive cameo that stole the show as he walked to the crease to face the final 4 balls and smashed 20 runs.

In their allotted 20 overs, CSK scored 206 runs and lost 4 wickets. Captain Hardik Pandya picked up two wickets, while Gerald Coetzee and Shreyas Gopal each claimed one wicket.
