Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi has become a household name in IPL 2025, not just for his bowling but for his now-viral wicket celebration that has sparked curiosity and admiration among fans. The 25-year-old leg-spinner, in his debut IPL season, has stood out with his unique "notebook" celebration, which has made him a trending topic on social media and a fan favourite across the league.
Every time Rathi dismisses a batter, he theatrically takes out an imaginary notebook and pretends to jot something down, either in the air or dramatically on the ground. This quirky yet eye-catching routine quickly caught fire online, with fans sharing clips and memes in droves. But while the celebration brought joy to supporters, it also brought Rathi a fine from the match officials for breaching the league’s code of conduct due to excessive celebration.
Until recently, Rathi hadn’t shared the deeper meaning behind his celebration. But in a heartwarming moment captured in a video posted by LSG on their official social media handles, the spinner finally explained the origins of the gesture. During a fan Q&A session, one supporter asked about the now-famous move. Rathi responded with a smile:
“Whenever there is a tournament, I carry a notebook and write down all the names.”
The crowd erupted in applause, moved by the revelation. His response suggests that the celebration isn’t just playful – it symbolises a personal ritual of tracking achievements and keeping tabs on opponents, literally and metaphorically. It’s a nod to his competitive spirit and meticulous nature, adding a layer of personality to his on-field performances.
While Rathi’s celebration has been a highlight, the Lucknow Super Giants haven’t had much to celebrate as a team this season. Failing to finish in the top four, LSG’s IPL 2025 campaign has been underwhelming, marred by inconsistent performances and injuries. Led by Rishabh Pant, the team will play their final league match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on May 27 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
For LSG, the match holds only pride. However, for RCB, the stakes are much higher. A win could secure them a top-two finish on the points table and a strategic advantage going into the playoffs. With a superior net run rate on the line, RCB will be looking to dominate, while LSG will aim to spoil their party and end their campaign on a positive note.
