As Chennai Super Kings locked horns with Gujarat Titans in their final game of the IPL 2025 season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the action wasn’t just on the field; it spilt over into the commentary box, where former CSK stalwart Suresh Raina made waves with a cryptic yet intriguing comment about his future with the franchise.

During the second innings, Raina, who was on commentary duty alongside Aakash Chopra for Star Sports, dropped what many fans are now calling a “yellow bombshell”. The duo was discussing CSK’s future after a turbulent season when the broadcast cut to a shot of CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan in the stands. That’s when Chopra tossed a casual question to Raina: “What’s going on there?”

Raina’s reply was thoughtful and layered. “The planning for next year is what’s going on,” he said. “Kasi sir has been handling things for years, and even MS Dhoni has been at it for quite some time. But if the team is to move ahead, fresh ideas and new players are important. CSK is a big brand, and it won’t just fade away.”

Chopra, sensing an opportunity, jumped in with a cheeky remark: “You just heard it for the first time on Star Sports – from the next year’s batting coach of CSK…” Raina laughed off the comment, but the spark had already been lit. Fans immediately took to social media, speculating whether the iconic left-hander might be set for a coaching role with the team that defined his IPL career.

“The sky does not belong to the pigeons”: Raina

Raina wasn’t done making headlines. As discussions turned to CSK’s performance this season, a campaign marked by inconsistency and their rare failure to make the playoffs, he delivered a quote that quickly became viral.

“If the eagle doesn’t fly for four days, the sky does not belong to the pigeons,” Raina said, addressing criticism of CSK’s form with a poetic metaphor. His message was clear: one quiet season doesn’t erase CSK’s legacy or stature in the IPL.

On the field, CSK finally gave their fans something to cheer about. With a blistering 230-run total, powered by a late onslaught from Dewald Brevis, the team showed flashes of the dominance they’re known for. Their bowlers followed up with discipline and intensity, wrapping up Gujarat Titans at 147/10 in the 19th over.
