The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have gone a step ahead and banned the telecast of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 across Bangladesh. They have instructed the broadcast companies to not telecast any content related to the IPL until further notice.

A few days earlier, BCCI instructed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise to release Mustafizur Rehman from the squad after they got threats from communal groups in India. The outrage against Rehman started after the violence against Hindus that happened in Bangladesh.

The franchise or the board didn't give any valid reason before releasing the player from the squad. Since the, BCB have taken various steps to showcase their frustration.

"In view of the subject, it is being informed that a directive from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has come to light regarding the exclusion of Bangladeshi star player Mr Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders team for the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament, scheduled to be held from 26 March 2026. No rational reason for such a decision by the Indian Cricket Board is known, and such a decision has pained, saddened, and aggrieved the people of Bangladesh.

"Under these circumstances, until further notice, a request is made as per instructions to stop the broadcast/telecast of all matches and programmes of the Indian Premier League (IPL) This order is issued with the approval of the proper authority and in the public interest.."

BCB urged ICC to move their T20 World Cup matches from India

After Mustafizur Rehman was released from KKR, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) sent a written plea to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to move their matches from India. All of Bangladesh's matches had been scheduled in India before the Mushtafizur Row happened. Now, ICC is contemplating the thought of changing the entire schedule and venues of the teams after the outrage.

While ICC have not said anything about this yet, it will be intriguing to see thie response to the issue. With the World Cup is starting in a month, changing venues and schedules might be a tough job for the board.
