England's luck hasn't run out in the absense of their captain Ben Stokes as the new skipper Ollie Pope won the toss, continuing the legacy. India were forced to bat first under overcast conditions at the Kennington Oval, London, in the fifth Test match. The first session was quite eventful with India losing two early wickets in the form of their openers, leaving the middle-order in shock.
Surprisingly, Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill have held the match pretty well for India as of now. However, an incident happened in the 13th over when Sai Sudharsan was batting. Chris Woakes bowled a wonderful inswinger yorker, surprising the batter. He fell on the ground and the English players started appealing for an LBW.
But the on-field umpire, Kumar Dharmasena, nodded his head and gestured with his hands, implying that there was an inside edge on the bat. This helped England avoid a review. A few minutes later, the replay was shown on the big screen, where it was clear that the ball hit the bat first before hitting the pads.
The fans weren't happy with the way Dharmasena informed the English players. This turned into an online outrage. Meanwhile, India's batters Gill and Sudharsan were batting well before the game was interrupted with rain. With just eight wickets in hand and a rainy weather, the Indian batters will have to play a smart game and beat England in the final match. Only that way, they'll be able to save the series.
