Manchester United suffered a huge setback as their main goalkeeper, Andre Onana, was ruled out of the preseason due to a hamstring injury. As per the report, Onana will at least need six to eight weeks to recover.

With uncertainty over Onana's availability during the first few weeks of the Premier League 2025-26 season, Amorim wants to have someone experienced under the goal for Manchester United.
However, with limitations on expenses, United will have to offload a few current players to have someone like Emiliano Martinez in their squad. In that case, if United cannot manage the expense, they will have to depend on their preserved goalkeepers to replace Onana.

As per Fabrizio Romano, United have not prepared a formal proposal for Martinez to Aston Villa yet. As per other reports, the club could even ponder proposing players in a swap for the Argentine goalkeeper.
But after signing players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, United will surely have to sell a few players to have Martinez in their lineup.
Last season in 50 overall games for Manchester United, Onana was able to manage a clean sheet only 11 times, while conceding 65 goals.
In the meantime, Martinez for Aston Villa had 16 clean sheets in 53 games while conceding 61 goals. Martinez even had 5 clean sheets in the Champions League as well, which helped Villa reach the quarter-finals.
