Ahead of the big final on Sunday, team India got a chance to shine their weapons against Sri Lanka in a dead rubber Super Four match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Friday. Abhishek Sharma’s 61 and Tilak Verma’s unbeaten 49 helped India reach 202/5 in the first inning, the highest score of the edition so far.

Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bowl first as India brought one change to their playing XI. Jasprit Bumrah was rested, and Harshit Rana replaced him in the side.

Just like the last two games, Abhishek Sharma gave India a quick and solid start. Although India lost Shubman Gill early in the inning, it was the partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Abhishek Sharma that took them to 72 before the end of the 7th over.

Abhishek completed his third consecutive fifty of the series, and the fifth of his career in just 22 balls, but India lost Suryakumar on 12. Abhishek, with his fifty, became the fourth Indian batter to score three consecutive fifties in a T20I series or tournament.

After the dismissal of Abhishek Sharma on 61 from 31 balls, the 66-run partnership between Sanju Samson and Tilka Verma took India’s score to 150 at the end of the 15th over.

Sanju, who did not get a chance to bat in the last match against Bangladesh, scored a fine 39 off 23 before getting out. Hardik Panyda came out to bat at number 6, but could not contribute much with the bat.

Tilak Verma’s late flourish and 15 from the final over took India’s total to 202/5 in the first inning. Tilak remained unbeaten on 49 from 34 balls.
