India's head coach Gautam Gambhir has opened up on his job in the team after winning the T20 World Cup 2026. Gambhir, under whom India won the Champions Trophy, Asia Cup, and the T20 World Cup, revealed that he is with the team to defend his players and 'prove them right'. While having a conversation, he was asked about the superstar culture in the team.

Gambhir gave a straightforward answer, mentioning that the players are his responsibility and his job is to shield them. The T20 World Cup was a great example of how the players came together and performed. After Abhishek Sharma's failed performance, he was targeted by the experts and fans. But, the management defended him throughout and he ended up scoring a half-century in the finals.

"My job is not to prove critics wrong, my job is to prove my players right. My job is to stand like a shield for my players. These days the pressure and criticism on social media are very high. I always protect them from that trolling and take all the criticism and trolling on myself," said Gautam Gambhir as quoted by ANI.

I always do my work with honesty: Gautam Gambhir

Gambhir also opened up how the dressing room conversations happen. He revealed that he likes to remain honest with the players during the team meeting. India will look to win the ODI World Cup along with the WTC finals. The players are in great form and have performed well throughout the year.

"I always do my work with honesty. My job is to work honestly with the 15 players who sit together in the dressing room for those 30 minutes, without any agenda. As long as I know in my heart that I am honest, it doesn't matter whether we win or lose," he added.
