In a gripping finale to the three-match ODI series at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, New Zealand defeated India by 41 runs to take the series 2–1 in dramatic manner. Chasing a formidable target of 338 set by the Black Caps, India fought valiantly but ultimately fell short despite a brilliant century from Virat Kohli.

The victory was historic for New Zealand, marking a rare bilateral ODI series win on Indian soil. New Zealand’s innings was powered by a stunning display from Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips, both of whom scored centuries to lift the visitors to 337/8 in 50 overs. Mitchell’s commanding 137 and Phillips’ swift 106 provided the backbone of the total.

Their performance took away the pressure on the middle order and placed India under severe strain before the chase even began. The pair also shared a significant partnership that defied India’s bowling attack and shifted momentum firmly in favour of the Kiwis. For India, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana claimed three wickets each.

Virat Kohli's century went in vain as NZ win by 42 runs

India started with run-chase by scoring a couple of boundaries before losing Rohit Sharma early. The series didn't go well for the former skipper as he couldn't impress in any match. After his dismissal, India lost a couple of more wickets. But Virat Kohli and Nitish Reddy formed a brilliant partnership in the middle overs. Reddy scored 53 runs before getting out.

Similarly, Harshit Rana slammed a half-century as well but couldnt help India get past the finish line. Kohli's century went in vain as he was dismissed on 124 runs. When he was dismissed, India needed just 47 runs to win. Arshdeep Singh walked in and scored a boundary on his first ball but in the next ball Kuldeep Yadav was run-out, leading India to a series defeat. With this loss, India lost the bilateral series against New Zealand.
