The 24-time grand slam champion, Novak Djokovic, has withdrawn from the upcoming Cincinnati Open, starting on August 5, Tuesday. The star player has cited 'non-medical' reasons to opt out of the tournament ahead of the US Open 2025. This means that Djokovic will play the US Open without any match practice.
He hasn't played a single match after his semi-final defeat against Jannik Sinner on July 11 in the Wimbledon. It was a straight set loss against Sinner that happened almost two months ago. It looked like Djokovic wasn't in his best shape during the semi-final clash as he had eceived treatment on his upper left leg from a trainer.
Before opting out of the Cincinnati Open, Djokovic had already withdrawn from the Toronto Masters that concludes this week, citing a groin injury. While it's tough to decipher what's going on in Djokovic's mind at this point, the fans would be hoping to see their star player's performance at the US Open later this month.
The 38-year-old player is choosing the tournaments wisely which means that he is preserving his body for the better matches this year. Djokovic is going through some injury and it can be a reason behind him chosing his tournaments intricately. With the US Open coming up, his main aim most likley will be to take the revenge from Sinner. After his Wimbledon exit, he said, "It’s just age, the wear and tear of the body. As much as I’m taking care of it, the reality hits me right now."
