Pakistan successfully thwarted the Dutch challenge at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, securing victory by a margin of 81 runs. The Netherlands displayed commendable resilience, but it fell short of clinching its first win in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Nevertheless, their performance kept Pakistan on edge throughout the match.

Opting to bowl first, Netherlands bowler Bas de Leede made a significant impact with 4 wickets, leading the Orange team to dismiss Pakistan for a total of 286 runs in 49 overs.

In Pakistan's innings, Mohammad Rizwan (68) and Saud Shakeel (68) shone brightly, stabilizing the team's performance after an initial setback of losing three wickets.

Netherlands' openers started steadily against Pakistan's formidable pacers, but Hasan Ali struck first, removing Max O'Dowd. Colin Ackermann showed promise but was subsequently dismissed by spinner Iftikhar Ahmed.

Bas de Leede was the top scorer for the Netherlands with 67 runs, while Vikramjit Singh contributed 52 runs. However, Pakistan's pace duo of Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali spearheaded a strong bowling attack that led to the Netherlands being all out for 205 runs.

With this win, Babar Azam became the first Pakistan captain to win an ODI World Cup match in India. The victory on Indian soil in their first game sparked excitement among their fans, who took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their emotions.

Looking ahead, the Netherlands will face New Zealand on October 9, while Pakistan's next game is against Sri Lanka on October 10.
