Australia's Test captain Pat Cummins is going through an injury scare ahead of the Ashes 2025-26. However, during an interview, he mentioned that he is ready to play the series despite not being completely fit. The Ashes is going start on November 21. As per reports, Cummins has suffered lumbar bone stress and is going through multiple scans.
He is also ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. Moreover, there is the workload management stress that is also coming around for Cummins since he is one of the best players in the world. Not only as a player, but as a captain, he is one of the best in the business. Australia have won several tournaments under his leadership.
"That would be devastating [to be sidelined for the series opener], so we’ll be doing everything we can to try to be right for that. It’s a big Ashes series. It doesn’t get much bigger, so I think you’re willing to take a few risks and be a little bit aggressive to try and play as many Tests as you can. It’s [nearly] 12 weeks until the first Test; it feels a long way away, so we’ve got plenty of time," Cummins told cricket.com.au.
Cummins mentioned that he will try to 'speed up' the process of his recovery so that he would be able to play the series against England. The rivalry between Australia and England is one of the most dramatic series in cricket and that is why the series is extremely important for all the players from both sides.
"At this stage of my career, I feel like I can probably get up to speed a bit quicker than when I was 18 or 19. Back then, you probably felt like you needed to play a few [Sheffield] Shield games or one-dayers. I’m pretty confident even if I don’t get a chance to play a Shield game, I’ll be able to get up to speed," Cummins added.
