Pathum Nissanka’s blazing knock powers Sri Lanka beat Hong Kong in Asia Cup 2025 clash

Pathum Nissanka's fearless batting helped Sri Lanka beat Hong Kong in the 8th match of the Asia Cup 2025. With this win, the Island Nation are now the table toppers of Group B with four points. This was their second victory in the tournament and are on the verge of qualifying for the Super 4. It was an incredible performance by the entire team throughout the match. The balance between the batting and the bowling was quite evident as they confidently beat Hong Kong by four wickets. 

Hong Kong batted first and scored 149 runs. Anshuman Rath and Nizakath Khan scored 48 and 52 runs in the innings. Apart from them, the rest of the batters failed to impress the viewers. For Sri Lanka, Chameera claimed two wickets and gave away just 29 runs in four overs. 

When Sri Lanka batters came to the crease, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals but Nissanka's half-century helped them win the game. He played a stable innings, scoring 68 off 44 balls, including six boundaries and two sixes. This was his second half-century in the Asia Cup 2025. The batting attack looks quite sorted thanks to Nissanka's fierce performance in the last two matches. For an incredible performance, he won the Player of the Match award.

Charith Asalanka: The heart was in the mouth. Disappointed about a few things. First three overs in the bowling. Then with the bat, in the 16th over we lost a few wickets including mine. Consistently, these things can't happen even in the shorter formats. Credit to them, they batted well. There is pressure playing against every side.

Yasim Murtaza: To be honest, I am proud of the way the boys stood up today. We missed a few chances. In the end, the bowlers the way they fought was good. We were looking for 150-160. We dropped a few catches and that cost us the game. The positive thing is to be playing on the big stage. Dream come true. Once we go back, we will work on few things.
