Sri Lanka start their Asia Cup 2025 campaign on a winning note as they beat Bangladesh by six wickets in the 5th match. It was an easy victory for the Island Nation as the opening batter Pathum Nissanka's played an incredible innings to take the game home.

His 50 off 34 balls, including six boundaries and one six, and Kamil Mishara's 46 off 32 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes were enough for Sri Lanka to chase down 140 runs. With this win, they are now the table toppers of group A. Bangladesh batters failed miserably, scoring just 139 runs in the first innings.

After losing two wickets on zero runs, they went on to touch the 100-run mark which was an incredible thing, thanks to Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain. They scored 41 and 42 runs, respectively. Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga claimed two wickets in four overs. When the second innings started, Pathum Nissanka and Mishara's performance helped Sri Lanka win the match.

Who said what?

Charith Asalanka: That was a dream start with two overs, two maidens and two wickets. That is his main weapon, the googly (Hasaranga). Even we can't pick him properly. He's a superstar. Once we got 120 runs, we realised that we should finish it as soon as possible. Brilliant support from the fans. Even Bangladesh fans as well. Want to thank everyone who supported us.

Litton Das: I thought we lost the game in powerplay. Wicket was pretty good to bat on. 170-180 would've been a different game. On a good wicket if you score 140, you have to bowl and field well. We didn't do that. Do or die (against Afghanistan). Thanks to all our supporters. Wish they come again and watch our game.
