The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has firmly rejected rumours circulating on social media suggesting that players were fined following the team’s early exit from the T20 World Cup 2026. The board clarified that such claims are baseless and insisted that there is no policy or precedent of penalising players financially for tournament performances.
Reports had surfaced online alleging that the PCB imposed heavy fines on members of the national squad after Pakistan’s disappointing campaign in the global tournament. The speculation quickly gained traction across various social media platforms, leading to widespread debate among fans and cricket followers. However, the PCB has now issued a clear statement to dismiss these claims.
In an official response, the PCB labelled the reports as mere “social media gossip.” The board stressed that no such disciplinary action had been taken against the players. According to the PCB, there is neither a provision in the current contracts nor any established precedent that allows fines to be imposed simply because of a team’s performance in an international tournament.

"No such decision was ever taken by the PCB. It was all social media gossip. There is no such precedence or provision,” said Amir Mir as quoted by Hindustan Times.
The clarification was issued to address the growing confusion surrounding the rumours. PCB officials stated that spreading unverified information can damage the reputation of both the players and the governing body. They urged fans and media outlets to rely on verified sources rather than circulating speculation.
Pakistan’s performance in the T20 World Cup had come under scrutiny after the team failed to progress as expected. The disappointing campaign led to criticism from fans and analysts, with several questions raised about team selection, strategy, and overall performance. As often happens after major tournament setbacks, discussions around accountability and potential changes within the team began to intensify.
