In an One-day international (ODI) match, scoring a century is a tough job for any batter. However, in a recent match between Australia and South Africa, the home team's top-order batters put up a brilliant show for the crowd as well as the Proteas bowlers in the first innings. Travis Head started the innings in a fiery manner, while Mitchell Marsh supported him from the other end. After Head's dismissal, Cameron Green came in and continued with the momentum, scoring an unbeaten 118 runs.
This is rare feat and Australia have etched their names in the history books. They became the fifth team to achieve this record since this isn't the first instance where this thing has happened. 1. South Africa: Hashim Amla, Rilee Rossouw, AB de Villiers vs West Indies (Johannesburg, 2015)
In 2015, South Africa became the first team in the history of the ODIs to see three batters scoring centuries in a single innings. While playing against the West Indies, Hashim Amla, Rilee Rossouw, and AB de Villiers slammed three centuries. Moreover, De Villiers also became the fastest man to score an ODI century.
The Proteas scored 439 runs at the loss of two wickets. They won the match by 148 runs as the Caribbean nation was bowled out on 291 runs.
2. South Africa: Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers vs India (Wankhede, 2015)
Again in 2015, South Africa achieved this feat once again by slamming 438 runs at the loss of four wickets against India in an ODI match. Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, and AB de Villiers scored centuries in the match. While Quinton scored 109 runs, Du Plessis slammed 133 and De Villiers scored 109 runs.
It was a forgettable match for the Indian bowlers as they were trashed in almost every ball. The three players are quite talented and have played cricket for a very long time. However, back in the time, they were still making their presence felt in international cricket.
3. England: Phil Salt, Dawid Malan, Jos Buttler vs Netherlands (Amstelveen, 2022)
In the first ODI match against the Netherlands, England batters, Phil Salt, Dawid Malan, and Jos Buttler hit three terrific centuries, breaking the world-record of the highest ODI score. England scored 498 runs at the loss of four wickets. Despite losing Jason Roy early on, the rest of the batters played extremely well.
Salt scored 122 runs, while Malan scored 125 and Buttler scored 162 runs. For an incredible knock, Buttler was presented with the Player of the Match award.
4. South Africa: Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram vs Sri Lanka (Delhi, 2023)
South Africa registered another three centuries feat in the ODIs during the World Cup, scoring 428 runs in the first innings against Sri Lanka. Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram are the players who scored centuries in the match. South Africa went on to win the match 102 runs.
De Kock scored 100 runs, while Van der Dussen and Markram scored 108 and 106 runs, respectively. The Sri Lankan bowlers weren't much effective in the match as they were thrashed by the batters.
5. Australia: Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Green vs South Africa (Mackay, 2025)
In the 3rd ODI against South Africa, Australia's top order batters, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, and Cameron Green scored three centuries in the match. It was a treat to watch them bat with confidence after losing the series against the Proteas.
Australia won the match with a huge margin by 276 runs. For an incredible 142 runs, Travis Head receieved the Player of the Match award. Meanwhile, Marsh scored 100 and Green scored an unbeaten 118 runs off 55 balls.
