India's star batter Sanju Samson helped the team win the match against West Indies and advance to the semi-finals in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. He scored an unbeaten 50-ball 97 runs, including 12 boundaries and four sixes. After hitting the winning runs, he knealed down and did a unique celebration.
When asked about the moment and the reason behind the celebration, he mentioned that it was special and he would like to 'keep it private'. However, that knock will go down as one of the best in the history of the T20 World Cups. India was in deep trouble when Samson stepped in and showcased what he is capable of.
"Very special moment. I am a great believer, and I want to keep it very private. And it's a very special moment for me," Samson said in an interview with Parthiv Patel on JioHotstar.
After being dropped from the team numerous times, Samson's performance reflected the hardwork he has put in throughout the years. This was a perfect opportunity to score runs and cement his place in the playing XI.
India's former cricketer Ravi Shastri heaped praises on Sanju Samson's performance and how important that innings was for them. He also mentioned that the innings will remain special for him, and the team for a long time now.
"It is Sanju's special Samson today, and that innings was special, because just his calmness, his composure, and the sublime touch right through that innings," Shastri said on The ICC Review.
"This was not a league game. This was a knockout contest. People's expectations of Samson have been huge throughout his career. No one has questioned his talent, but they have been disappointed with his consistency. He brought everything to the fore today and made millions around the globe happy," he added.
