The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 has started on a good note with thrilling encounters everyday. In the 7th match of the tournament, Scotland beat Italy by 73 runs. It was a huge win for Scotland after their defeat against West Indies. They got less time to prepare for the tournament but proved to be an interesting team.
It was Italy's decision to bowl first in the match. Scotland openers George Munsey (84) and Michael Jones (37) put up a 125-run opening stand, that helped them form the base of the innings. After that the middle order batters did struggle to put the runs on the board but somehow they managed to 207 runs in 20 overs.
Brandon McMullen's cameo of 41 off 18 balls, including four sixes helped them reach the mammoth total on the board. Italy's bowling was quite mediocre which is why they failed to stop the batters from getting a high score in the first innings.
When Italy came to bat, they fell like a pack of cards. The batters couldn't form partnerships, failed to understand the pitch, and overall, failed to understand the bowlers as well. Hence, Michael Leask was successful in claiming four wickets against Italy. Their highest-scorer was Ben Manenti who scored 52 off 31 balls, including five boundaries and one six.
Leask claimed four wickets in four overs and conceded just 17 runs. The rest of the bolwers provided support from the other end, that helped Scotland clinch victory with a huge margin. This win will help them in the latter half of the tournament. For an incredible bowling spell. Leask won the Player of the Match award.
