The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025 has seen many wonderful performances in the first three matches, setting the tone for the rest of the tournament. Out of the overall centuries and wickets that have come, one player has been outstanding in all the three matches, Dhruv Jurel. In three matches, he has scored 307 runs at an average of 153 and is the second hightest run-scorer in this season so far. He scored an unbeaten 160 off 101 balls against Baroda.
While the right-handed batter has been in an incredible form, there are fans who have been curious about his inclusion in the ODI series against New Zealand. Jurel, who has played in both Tests and T20Is, is yet to make his ODI debut. While trying to cement his place in the Test cricket, Jurel has been excluded from the T20Is. He played his last game in January 2025.
Now, with the incredible form he is in, he should get his maiden call-up from the Indian team. However, the places in the Indian team are quite limited. With Ruturaj Gaikwad scoring a century in the South Africa series, and the news of Ishan Kishan making a comeback in the ODIs, Jurel might have to wait for his chance.
Since the T20 World Cup 2026 is approaching faster, the board has announced the squad for the T20I series against New Zealand. However, the ODI squad is yet to be announced. The anticipation regarding Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and Hardik Pandya's inclusion, is sky-high as the selectors and officials have been quite secretive about that.
Reports suggest that Pandya and Bumrah are likely to be sidelined due to workload management and the upcoming T20 World Cup, while Gill and Iyer are suffering from injuries and are recovering. The tentative date for the squad annoucement is January 4. Hence, the fans will have to wait until the given date to get the entire information on the squad selection.
