India's vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been given green signal to play in the upcoming ODI series by NCA head coach VVS Laxman. Reports suggest that Iyer, who was suffering from injury is now fit to play the New Zealand series, starting on January 11. The right-handed batter participated in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025 and slammed a half-century. 

Reports suggest that VVS Laxman personally wrote a letter to Ajit Agarlar informing about Iyer's fitness and that he can play in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand. Iyer is the vice-captain of the Indian team and is likely to be included in the playing XI as well. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill is also back in the team and will lead the team in the upcoming series. 

When Iyer was included in the ODI squad, BCCI mentioned that his participation in the series is subjective to medical clearance from NCA.

Team India start camp in Vadodara for ODI series from January 7

The Indian cricket team have started their practice camp in Vadodara for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, starting on January 11. The first game will be played at the same venue and hence, the players have gathered together and started their preparations. 

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Rishabh Pant will be omitted from the team since he will play the last round of the matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, scheduled on January 8. The Delhi skipper is likely to miss the preparation camp and the first match of the series as well. But, whether he will get a chance in the rest of the games is quite uncertain.
