Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has begun his road to recovery after a worrying health incident in Sydney. Following a freak injury sustained during the third ODI against Australia, Iyer was admitted to a local hospital where he was diagnosed with a spleen laceration. The good news came late on Friday when the BCCI confirmed that Iyer has been discharged and is now in stable condition. The incident had caused concern across the Indian cricket fraternity, but medical updates suggest the 30-year-old is responding well to treatment.

Shreyas Iyer’s condition improves

The injury occurred when Iyer attempted a diving stop during the Sydney ODI, landing awkwardly on his side. What initially appeared to be a routine fielding injury quickly escalated as he complained of discomfort and was taken off the field for scans. Tests revealed a small spleen tear, leading doctors to keep him under close observation.

The BCCI, in coordination with Cricket Australia’s medical team, monitored Iyer’s condition around the clock. Their latest report confirmed that the internal bleeding has stopped, and Iyer’s vitals have returned to normal. Although he has been discharged, he will remain in Sydney for a few days before getting clearance to fly back to India.

The board also mentioned that his return to competitive cricket will depend on medical reviews once he reaches home. Sources close to the team indicated that Iyer could require several weeks of rest and rehabilitation, ruling him out of India’s upcoming limited-overs fixtures.
