India’s captain Shubman Gill left the field in the ongoing 1st Test match against South Africa due to a neck sprain. Gill walked out to bat in No. 4 position after the dismissal of Washington Sundar, who looked in good form. However, the captain couldn't stay for long since he got a sprain in his neck and had to leave the field with visible pain on his face.
Gill hit a boundary in the second ball after defending the first ball successfully. However, after the third ball, he couldn’t stay on the ground, and the physio had to come out and take him back inside the dressing room. This isn’t good news for the Indian team since they have not yet taken a lead in the match. However, they are still in a commanding position with six wickets in hand as we write.
The BCCI management hasn’t given any official statement on Shubman Gill yet. Hence, the fans will have to wait and see if he will be back to bat in the ongoing match. Without Gill, Rishabh Pant will have to take up the responsibility since he is the vice-captain of the Indian team. He is also returning from a foot injury which happened in England.
Pant has looked great with the gloves in the first innings, taking solid catches and giving good decisions regarding the LBW. However, he was dismissed on 27 runs off 24 balls, including two boundaries and sixes. Pant is more like an asset to the Indian team for his brilliant judgement and batting in the middle order.
After a stunning bowling performance in the first innings, the Indian batters are expected to put up a great batting performance as well. The Proteas bowlers have played well so far, keeping a tight check on the opponent batters. Hence, it will be interesting to see how far the match will go and which team will get the results in their favor.
