The five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had a horrible IPL 2025 season. The team has just won two matches out of nine played so far. The team is already out of the playoff qualifications following their back-to-back losses. Whether playing at home or away, the team have struggled miserably in almost all sorts of departments.

CSK is currently led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad, who suffered an elbow fracture mid-season. Despite the leadership change, things have continued to remain the same for the franchise as they fail to figure out the shortcomings in their batting, bowling, and fielding. The team's next match is against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 30.

Amid CSK's poor outing in the IPL 2025, batting coach Mike Hussey has admitted a few mistakes that have cost them heavily in the ongoing season. Hussey has pointed out the flaws in the talent scouting process and sought major improvements in it.

Mike Hussey wants CSK to get better at talent scouting

CSK batting coach Mike Hussey recently voiced his thoughts on the improvements that need to be done on the talent scouting side. He said that the management should take informed decisions during this process.

"I think it's one area that we've really identified that we want to improve on is that talent identification side of things. So, we have had different players come in and train with us at various stages, almost on trial a little bit, but also when their names come up for an auction, then at least we've seen them, we've had eyes on them. I mean, we get sent all the videos, packages and stuff."

He further mentioned that young players should be made to play a few practice matches to know their ability to handle the pressure. Here's what he said:

"If we can play some practice games, see the youngsters under pressure, we can make more informed decisions about the talent that we're looking at moving forward. So, it's certainly one area that I think they're putting a lot of time and effort into to make sure that we get the right talent moving forward."

He further added, "They're very important decisions. There's so much talent in this country, and it's about picking the right ones. We're still going to make mistakes, no question. But if we can make more informed decisions, then I think that will help the franchise moving forward."
