The Indian cricket team has been fined 10% of their match fees after being found guilty of maintaining a slow over rate during the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur. According to the ICC Code of Conduct Article 2.22, teams are penalised when they fail to bowl their overs within the allotted time.

Match referee Richie Richardson confirmed that India were two overs short of the target even after time allowances were considered. Stand-in captain KL Rahul accepted the charge on behalf of the team, meaning no formal hearing was required.

The sanction means each Indian player will face a deduction from their match fee, as every over short of the requirement carries a 5% fine. This slow over rate penalty has once again highlighted the ICC’s stricter enforcement of over-rate regulations across formats, especially in high-intensity bilateral series like India vs South Africa.

"India was charged in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences. The players are fined five per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time if sanctioned," read a statement by ICC.

India seal ODI series against South Africa

Despite a narrow loss in the second ODI, the team bounced back impressively to seal the series 2–1, proving their growing consistency in overseas conditions.

The batting unit performed with dominance throughout the series. Senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma anchored the innings when required, while youngsters such as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed with confident stroke play. India’s top order including Rohit and Jaiswal often set the tone, allowing the middle order to build on the platform with aggressive finishing touches.

On the bowling front, things weren't as good as it was expected. The pace attack combined well with the spinners, were put to test in all the matches. The entire series exposed the loop holes in the bowling as the South African batters hit the bowlers throughout the park. However, in the last game, there were some imrpoved performances that helped the hosts win the series.
