As the IPL 2025 season prepares to restart after a brief but tense pause due to India-Pakistan border tensions, hope is once again alive in Bengaluru. Not just among fans in red and gold, but also from an unexpected corner, Suresh Raina.

The former CSK stalwart and one of Indian cricket’s most admired voices believes that Royal Challengers Bengaluru might finally be on the cusp of something special: their first-ever IPL title.

And he doesn’t say it lightly.

“They’re playing in a different league This year”: Raina

Speaking on Star Sports ahead of the IPL’s resumption, Raina couldn’t hide his admiration for the shift he’s seen in RCB this season. “They’re playing in a different league this year,” he said, clearly impressed. “Defending scores like 150 and even 136 at Chinnaswamy... that’s no small feat. Their bowling has stood up in pressure moments.”

Defending 136 at Chinnaswamy, where even 200 often feels chaseable, isn’t just impressive. It’s the kind of gritty, determined performance that champions are built on. And this time, it’s coming from a side that’s long been accused of crumbling under pressure.

A lot of the credit has gone to Rajat Patidar, the young and calm new leader who’s taken over the reins this season. Under him, RCB managed something they’ve never done before in IPL history, beating Chennai Super Kings twice in a single season.

“Winning once in Chennai and then again at home? That says something,” Raina remarked. “That’s not just a win, it’s a mindset shift.”

And yes, even with a new captain at the helm, the name Virat Kohli continues to dominate hearts, minds, and headlines. Though he’s not leading on the field, Raina was quick to point out how much his presence still matters.

Will this be Virat's year?

It’s been 18 long years. That’s how long Virat Kohli has waited. He’s been the face of RCB, the heart of their fight, and the symbol of hope for millions of fans who’ve stuck by the team through thick and thin.

And maybe, just maybe, this is the year that hope finally turns into celebration.

“The dressing room feels positive,” Raina said with a smile. “You can feel that energy, that unity. It’s what you see in teams that go all the way. And yes, Mumbai, Gujarat, and Punjab are strong contenders too, but something about this RCB side just feels... ready.”
