The Indian cricket team has again asserted its dominance in the ODI genre, with three of its top-order batters now featuring in the ICC Men's ODI Batting Rankings Top 5. The latest revision has come to mark Shubman Gill at No. 1 with 784 rating points, who has displayed great consistency and versatility across conditions.
Gill has turned out to be the pillar of India's batting order, who can hold an innings together while also accelerating at crucial moments. India ODI skipper Rohit Sharma's comeback is also impressive. Though he has not played an ODI since the 2025 Champions Trophy final, in which he smashed a quick 76 runs, Rohit has reached the No. 2 ranking.
His rise followed Pakistan's Babar Azam, who was last in the second rank, slipping in form with just 56 runs in a recent series against the West Indies. This is the first time since 2020 that Babar has dropped out of the top two in the ODI rankings.
Meanwhile, former India captain Virat Kohli continues to showcase the value of longevity and consistency, holding the No. 4 position with 736 rating points. Kohli’s ability to perform under pressure, coupled with his experience, ensures he remains a cornerstone of India’s ODI strategy. His presence in the top five alongside Gill and Rohit shows how consistent he’s been ever since he started featuring in the 50-over format.
Apart from them, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul occupy the No. 9 and No. 15 positions, respectively. Iyer’s aggressive stroke play and adaptability make him a key player in turning matches, while Rahul’s versatility and composure at the crease provide balance and stability.
Together, these five batters display the perfect blend of youth and experience, positioning India as a formidable force in the ODI format. The dominance of India in the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings is nothing new, and it’s also a great sign for the team as they will be playing the 2027 ODI World Cup just two years from now.
