In the match No. 7 of the Asia Cup 2025, UAE put up a dominating performance against Oman in Abu Dhabi. UAE won the match by 42 runs, accumulating the first win of the tournament. With this win, they are back in the tournament and have a chance to qualify for the Super 4 if they beat Pakistan in their next match. Openers Alishan Sharafu (51) and Muhammad Waseem (69) took the game home with their incredible performance.
It was Oman's decision to put UAE to bat first. When the match started, it looked like a great pitch to bat on as the opening pair formed a 88-run partnership in 10 overs. However, they started losing wickets at frequent intervals and ended up scoring 172 runs in the first innings. For Oman, Jiten Ramanandi was the best bowler, taking two wickets.
The pitch looked different for Oman as they started losing wickets from the first over of the innings. None of the batters could touch the 30-run mark, which was quite disappointing. Aryan Bisht was the highest scorer for Oman, scoring 24 off 32 balls, including two boundaries.
The batters failed which is why they couldn't chase the target. Junaid Siddique claimed four wickets and was like a walking nightmare for the batters. While the Player of the Match award selection was quite difficult, Sharafu got the trophy for an incredible batting performance.
UAE captain Muhammad Waseem said, "(On the loss against India and comeback here) The past is the past and we wanted to show this caliber to everyone with the way we can play. Very happy with today, we prepared ourselves for three days and executed well as a batting and bowling unit. We wanted to attack in the powerplay and then bat deep. (On scoring 3000 runs) It is a very proud moment for me, my family and my country. I want to continue the same way."
Oman captain Jatinder Singh said, "I believe credit goes to the UAE batters, they had their plans and executed well. When we started, we were on target but we lost too many wickets in crunch situations. The team is picking up but we lack a bit of experience. The track was placid and the ball was coming on nicely, we wanted to target the first six overs but we lost wickets and that put us on the backfoot. (On his wicket) He played as per plans, it was a slower one and I was a bit too early on the shot."
