The stage is set for the final of the last Grand Slam Major of the year. The men’s singles final in the US Open 2024 is scheduled to take place on September 8 at 2 pm (EDT), at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows. Viewers in India will get to catch the match live late on September 8, with an estimated start time at 11.30 pm (IST). Sony Sports and SonyLIV are the official broadcast and streaming partners of the US Open in India.
The men’s singles finalists – Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz – are both first-timers at this level of the tournament. Sinner is the first Italian to make it to the US Open final, while Fritz is the first American since Andy Roddick’s 2006 final appearance. Should Fritz win, he will break a 21 year-drought that USA had in the Open Era. Roddick had won the US Open in 2003. As the world No.1, Sinner’s Grand Slam record has not been the greatest – his only win so far has come at the 2024 Australian Open, while semi-final outings have been his best so far at the other Slams.
Sinner and Fritz have not played each other often and are currently at 1:1 in the head-to-head encounters. Both their previous matches were on hard court, with Fritz winning the first at the ATP Masters 1000 Indian Wells in 2021. Two years later, Sinner defeated him at the same tournament.
Sinner’s not had any 5-set matches in his journey to the final. He began his quest with a 4-set match against Mackenzie McDonald (2-6 6-1 6-2 6-1), and followed that up with wins against Alex Michelsen (6-4 6-0 6-2), Christopher O’Connell (6-1 6-4 6-2), Tommy Paul (7-6 7-6 6-1), Daniil Medvedev (6-2 1-6 6-1 6-4) and Jack Draper (7-5 7-6 6-2).

Fritz’ road to the US Open final began with three straight victories over Camilo Ugo (7-5 6-1 6-2), Matteo Berrettini (6-3 7-6 6-1) and Francisco Comesana (6-3 6-4 6-2). By the Round of 16, he met Casper Ruud (3-6 6-4 6-3 6-2) and then Alexander Zverev (7-6 3-6 6-4 6-3) in the quarter-final. In the semi-final, he met fellow American Frances Tiafoe, who forced a 5-setter (4-6 7-5 4-6 6-4 6-1).
