U.S. Open 2025: Venus Williams all set for Grand Slam return in Women’s Doubles with Leylah Fernandez
Tennis legend Venus Williams, 45, is making her Grand Slam return at the U.S. Open 2025, partnering with Canadian Leylah Fernandez in the women's doubles.

Tennis legend Venus Williams is all set to make her return to Grand Slam competition at the U.S. Open 2025 by competing in the women’s doubles event alongside Canadian star Leylah Fernandez. The 45-year-old Williams, who is participating in her first major tournament in two years, received a wild-card entry for the doubles draw.
Williams and Fernandez are set to face the sixth-seeded duo of Lyudmyla Kichenok from Ukraine and Ellen Perez of Australia in the first round. Fernandez, 22, brings a strong singles pedigree to the partnership, having finished as the runner-up in the 2021 U.S. Open singles tournament.
The Women's doubles competition will begin on Thursday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Venus has had an inspiring comeback after a 16-month absence from professional tennis. She returned to the circuit this July following surgery for uterine fibroids last year.

Despite first-round exits in both mixed doubles last week and singles on Monday, where she was defeated by 11th-seeded Karolina Muchova in a hard-fought three-set battle, Williams expressed immense joy at reclaiming her place on the court.
“Getting back on the court was about giving myself a chance to play more healthily. When you play unhealthily, it’s in your mind. It’s not just how you feel. You get stuck in your mind, too. So it was nice to be freer,” Venus said after getting the wild-card entry.
Venus won seven Grand Slam singles titles and an additional 14 major women’s doubles trophies, all won alongside her sister Serena. The duo won the U.S. Open doubles championships twice, in 1999 and 2009. Venus and Serena last played together at the US Open in 2022, the year Serena concluded her singles career.
